据联合新闻网报道，英国广播公司(BBC)调查了来自全球43个国家和地区的209位影评人（其中45%是女性），选出了影史最伟大的100部外语电影。近日推出百大非英语电影的榜单，共有67位导演、24个国家和19种语言的作品入选。法语片有27部进榜，华语片有13部，意大利文与日语片各11部。

第一名是日本导演黑泽明的代表作《七武士》。《七武士》上映于1954年，尽管距离上映超过半世纪，但这部长达3个半小时、描述日本战国时代的黑白片仍在影坛高居不朽地位，出现在41名影评人（20％）的榜单上。

中国香港导演王家卫有3部电影入榜，分别为“花样年华”（第9名）、“重庆森林”（56名）和“春光乍泄”（71名）；中国内地导演张艺谋也有2部电影入榜，分别为“活着”（41名）和“大红灯笼高高挂”（93名）。陈凯歌的“霸王别姬”为第12名。

影评人各自选出心目中10部最佳非英语电影，从第一名到第10名进行排序。若在影评人的名单中获得第一名，就可以获得10分，依序减分，第10名获得1分，最后总计每部电影的得分。两部电影若有同分情况出现，则比较获得第一名的次数，由此制作出“最佳百大外语片”名单。

受邀者包括《纽约时报》、《金融时报》等媒体影评人、大学教授，以及多伦多国际电影节等国际电影节的评审等。
